Avoiding food waste is crucial in today’s world, both to reduce our impact on the planet and to save money. While we often hear that throwing away food is irresponsible, much of our waste comes from improper storage methods. Here are some tricks to preserve five common foods more effectively:
1.Cheese If you’ve been storing cheese in cling film, it’s time to change that habit. Cling film can suffocate cheese, which needs to “breathe” to prevent drying out or developing mold due to excess moisture. Instead, wrap your cheese in baking paper, and it will stay fresh for up to seven days on the top shelf of the fridge.
2.Bananas Bananas ripen faster in the fridge, so it’s better to keep them at room temperature. To slow down the ripening process, wrap the stem in cling film. This traps the ethylene gas produced during ripening, helping to extend their freshness.
3.Celery and Carrots
