2. In a shallow dish, mix together equal parts all-purpose flour and cornmeal or breadcrumbs. Season the mixture with salt and pepper according to your taste.

3. Pour buttermilk or milk into another shallow dish. Dip each tomato slice into the buttermilk or milk, allowing any excess liquid to drip off.

4. Coat the tomato slices in the flour-cornmeal mixture, pressing gently to ensure they are evenly coated.

5. Heat oil in a skillet or frying pan over medium heat. You’ll need enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan, about 1/4 inch deep.

6. Carefully place the coated tomato slices into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they turn golden brown and crispy.

7. Once fried, remove the tomato slices from the pan and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

8. Serve the fried green tomatoes immediately while they are still warm. They can be enjoyed as a side dish, appetizer, or even as a topping for sandwiches.

Feel free to experiment with additional seasonings or dipping sauces to enhance the flavor of your fried green tomatoes. Enjoy!
